How do your grades represent learning? Through self-reflection and exploration of historical perspectives on current grading practices, we will compare and contrast traditional and learning-oriented (e.g. standards based grading) grading practices. In this session, we will identify the components of learning-oriented grading policies and practices that promote a growth mindset and student success. Participants will understand effective instructional and reporting practices aligned with the KSDE Redesign Principles, with special emphasis on why learning-oriented policies promote student success, how to transition grading and instructional practices, and what it means for teachers and students. We will explore learning-oriented practices as well as action steps to transition from traditional grading and instructional practices to learning-oriented grading and instructional practices.
