Cultural awareness in a classroom begins with real reflection by the teacher and a willingness to lead students into courageous conversations.  Join me in a session examining our own bias, inspecting of favorite lessons for diversity inclusion, and exploring new materials to implement in your classroom. We will use uncomfortable conversations and judgement-free classrooms as a springboard into diversity rich lessons that incorporate critical thinking, social skills, and content analysis using media clips, primary documents, and hands-on activities.

Kim Wahaus

American Government and AP Government Teacher, Olathe South High School
I am an archivist and a picker by nature, which vocationally makes me a social studies teacher. I have a true passion for helping students of all educational levels uncover more than facts, but the skills necessary to be historians, advocates, and open minded thinkers.
