Reading Instruction for Every Teacher
In this session, we will introduce the Science of Reading and help teachers connect the importance of the foundations of solid reading instruction to their current practice. We will work collaboratively in small grade level groups to design instruction that teachers can take and use immediately in their classrooms. Teachers will plan and produce effective reading instructional strategies that will aid in the outcome of improved reading comprehension for all students.  This session will offer grade-appropriate strategies for all teachers in grades K - 12. PLEASE BRING A LAPTOP/ELECTRONIC DEVICE.

KESA and Redesign – How Do They Work Together?
This session will explore the connections between the Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) and the Kansas Can School Redesign Project (Redesign). KSDE has been working on an updated KESA Rubric that incorporates the Principles of Redesign, in cooperation with the Accreditation Advisory Council and others. A draft of that work will be shared for discussion, along with plans for how and when to finalize and implement the updated rubric. Currently, both programs address continuous school improvement initiatives, but they focus on it from different perspectives and have sometimes used slightly different language to do so. This work is intended to try make the connections between the two more seamless for systems to implement.
